The Police have arrested a 45-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of job scams.
In March 2024, the Police received reports from several victims who had responded to online advertisements offering job opportunities in Singapore. The victims paid deposits via bank transfers to the man, who promised to secure the job opportunities. After receiving the monies, the man purportedly did not secure any jobs and became uncontactable.
Through follow-up investigations, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 26 March 2024. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in at least six similar reports with total amount cheated to be more than $5,000.
The man will be charged in court on 28 March 2024 with the offence of Cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
The Police take a serious view on cheating offences and offences will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
