A 49-year-old director of a motor vehicle parallel importer will be charged in court on 5 April 2024 for forging and submitting forged documents to the Land Transport Authority (“LTA”) in order to obtain vehicle approval for the registration of imported motor vehicles.
Between January and March 2020, the man had purportedly forged 14 exhaust emission test reports and submitted them to LTA to support the company’s vehicle approval applications to obtain in-principle approval for vehicles.
All motor vehicles in Singapore must be approved before they are allowed to be registered with LTA for use on the roads. For a motor vehicle to be approved, the importer is required to submit documentation to show that it complies with the safety and technical requirements, including the prevailing vehicle exhaust emission standards, in Singapore.
If convicted, for each charge of under Section 468 of the Penal Code, the man faces imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years and a fine.
SPF and LTA take a serious view of this matter and will not hesitate to investigate suspected cases of forgery. All motor dealers and importers must ensure that all documents and information submitted to obtain vehicle approval are accurate and in order.
