The Traffic Police (TP) and the Singapore Road Safety Council (SRSC) launched the Singapore Road Safety Month (SRSM) 2024 campaign today. One of the highlights of this year’s campaign is the two day “Carnival for Families” at Toa Payoh HDB Hub Mall Atrium from 1 – 2 June 2024. The Guest-of-Honour for the launch of this campaign was Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment & Ministry of Transport.

Singapore Road Safety Month 2024

The theme for this year’s SRSM campaign is “Road Safety Begins with You and Me”. The month-long campaign aims to highlight that all of us have a part to play in making our roads safer. As inculcating gracious road user behaviour begins from young, parents, grandparents and caregivers are encouraged to be good role models for their children by adopting good road safety habits. To promote the theme, road safety banners (refer to Annex A) will be placed at strategic locations with high footfall to remind members of the public of their shared responsibility in road safety.

To increase road safety awareness among road users, TP will also be publishing a series of road safety videos. The first video was launched during the event and encourages the elderly pedestrians to adopt good road use habits for their safety, as this road user group continued to be over-represented in accidents. This series of videos will subsequently be screened on various platforms, such as free-to-air television and “Use Your RoadSense” Facebook page.

Carnival For Families

The aim of the carnival was to raise road safety awareness among road users and encourage the sharing of road safety knowledge in the community. The highlight of the carnival was the light-hearted edu-tainment mini road safety concert, hosted by local artistes Marcus Chin (陈建彬), Lee Pei Fen (李佩芬) and Aven Cheng (皓皓). The artistes highlighted and promoted key road safety messages through songs and humorous skits, in different languages and dialects, recognising the diverse audience profiles. Families were encouraged to spread the messages to their loved ones and friends. The concert was streamed live on TP’s ‘Use Your RoadSense’ Facebook page.

The carnival also featured booths from TP’s and SRSC’s stakeholders and partners. TP and SRSC will continue to work with them to make Singapore roads safer.

During the event, GOH Dr Amy Khor said, “Our road transport planners from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) have safety as a key consideration in all infrastructure planning and design. To make our roads safer for our young and senior road users, LTA has implemented a series of programmes such as School Zones near schools, and Silver Zones in areas with higher proportions of senior residents. Within these zones, there are enhanced traffic calming measures like reduced speed limits, and more speed humps. Inculcating a strong road safety culture and graciousness among all road users takes time and commitment. This is why the work of the SRSC remains crucial. To encourage responsible practices among all road users and promote road safety awareness, TP and SRSC work with various partners and stakeholders on educational programmes. But we cannot do this without your support. The tagline for this year’s Road Safety Month, “Road Safety Begins with You and Me”, is therefore apt. All of us have a part to play in making our roads safer.”

Chairman of SRSC, Mr Bernard Tay said “At the heart of the Singapore Road Safety Month 2024 is a shared vision of safer roads for every family. Through interactive road safety activities and engaging performances, families are equipped with practical road safety knowledge. We hope that this would also foster a responsible road use culture. Together, let us prioritise safety and ensure that every journey is a safe and enjoyable experience for all.”

Commander of TP, Senior Assistant Commissioner Daniel Tan said, “Family members play an important role to encourage their loved ones and friends to adopt good road use habits. I urge everyone to be responsible, considerate and patient road users so that we can all return home safely to our loved ones.”

We would like to remind the public to stay safe on the roads and join us in our journey to encourage good road behaviour for all.
