The Police have arrested a 23-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a theft of a car and a suspected drug-related offence.

On 9 June 2024 at about 8.25am, Police officers were patrolling along Block 645 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 when the Next Generation Fast Response Car’s Automated Number Plate Recognition System (ANPR) detected a vehicle that was reported to be stolen and an alert was sent to the officers. Officers then stopped in front of the car.

As officers approached the car, the man who was in the car at the material time allegedly attempted to flee by starting the car engine and resisted arrest.  The man was subsequently arrested.

The man was charged in court on 10 June 2024 for an offence of theft of a motor vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal code 1871. He is also being investigated for several other offences, for which police investigations are ongoing. The offence of theft of a motor vehicle carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and a fine.
