Man Arrested For Mischief By Fire With Intent To Cause Damage To Property

The Police have arrested a 66-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of mischief by fire with intent to cause damage to property.

On 10 June 2024 at 8:58am, the Police were alerted to a case of fire where five bicycles parked along the common corridor of a residential block located along Cassia Crescent were burnt.

Through ground enquiries, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 12 June 2024. A lighter which was used to set the fire was seized as case exhibit.

The 66-year-old man will be charged in court on 13 June 2024 for the offence of mischief by fire with intent to cause damage under Section 435 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence of mischief by fire with intent to cause damage carries an imprisonment term up to 7 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.  

The Police have zero tolerance against acts that endanger the lives or safety of others and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.
