The Police have arrested a 21-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of causing death by rash act on 1 July 2024.
On 30 June 2024 at 10.15pm, the Police received a call for assistance where a man had fallen into the waters of Singapore River. Divers from SCDF’s Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) were deployed to perform an underwater search. The body of a 33-year-old man was subsequently retrieved from the waters and pronounced dead at scene.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras and CCTVs, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, Central Police Division and Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the 21-year-old man and arrested him in relation to the incident.
The 21-year-old man will be charged in court on 2 July 2024 for causing death by rash act under Section 304A of the Penal Code 1871. If convicted, the offence is punishable with an imprisonment term of up to 5 years, or with fine, or with both. Police investigations are ongoing.
