The Police are investigating five men, aged between 59 and 74, for their suspected involvement in illegal horse betting activities.
On 30 July 2024, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted enforcement operations against illegal gambling activities in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4. A 59-year-old man was arrested for allegedly acting as a bookmaker and four men, aged between 59 and 74, were arrested for allegedly placing bets with the bookmaker. Cash amounting to more than $4,900 and horse betting paraphernalia were seized as case exhibits. Police investigations against the five men are ongoing.
Under the Gambling Control Act 2022, anyone who is found to be involved in unlawful betting operations shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $200,000 and shall also be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years. Under the same Act, any person who gambles with an unlicensed gambling service provider shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or both.
The Police take a serious view against all forms of illegal betting activities and will continue to take tough enforcement action against anyone who is involved in those activities. Members of the public are advised to steer clear of all forms of illegal gambling activities.
