The Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of cheating.

On 27 June 2024, the Police received a report where an online retail company was allegedly cheated of more than $52,000.  Between January to April 2024, the online retail company received multiple online refund requests from a customer claiming that he either did not receive his pre-ordered computer products or wish to return his received orders to the company. After effecting the refund process, the customer would allegedly dupe the company by not returning the received products or returning some other products of lower value at the designated drop-off points.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 31 July 2024. Computer products such as desktop processors amounting to $13,000 were recovered.

The man will be charged in court on 2 August 2024 with the offence of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871 which carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.

The Police would like to warn members of the public that it is a serious offence to defraud retailers and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.
