The Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of cases of mischief by fire with intent to cause damage to property.
On 25 July 2024, the Police were alerted to a case of fire where discarded items at a staircase landing of a residential block along Yishun Street 11 were set on fire. Subsequently, there were two other similar cases of mischief by fire at the same residential block.
Through ground enquiries and follow up investigations, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 31 July 2024. A lighter which was purportedly used to set the fire was seized as case exhibit.
The 26-year-old man will be charged in court on 2 August 2024 with the offence of mischief by fire with intent to cause damage under Section 435 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence of mischief by fire with intent to cause damage carries an imprisonment term up to seven years and shall also be liable to a fine.
The Police have zero tolerance against acts that endanger the lives or safety of others and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.
