The Police have arrested a 32-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of camera rental scams.
Between September to November 2024, the Police received several reports from victims who were purportedly cheated by the man after loaning their digital cameras and accessories to him. After the rental period ended, the man became uncontactable despite numerous attempts to reach him. The victims suffered losses amounting to at least $50,000.
Through follow up investigations, officers from the Woodlands and Ang Mo Kio Police Divisions established the identity of the man and arrested him on 10 December 2024.
The man will be charged in court on 12 December 2024 for the offence of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
The Police take a serious view against any person who commits fraud, and the perpetrators will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
