National Safety & Security Watch Group (Nsswg) Award Ceremony 2024

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) jointly organised the National Safety and Security Watch Group (NSSWG) Award Ceremony 2024 on 27 December 2024. The NSSWG award recognises members at the national level for their efforts in enhancing the safety and security of their workplaces against potential terrorist attacks.

Ms Sun Xueling, Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of Social and Family Development, was the Guest-of-Honour. In her opening address, she thanked the Safety and Security Watch Group (SSWG) members for their achievements and contributions in keeping Singapore safe and secure. She also emphasised that strong community partnership was vital as it strengthened Singapore’s collective ability to respond to crises confidently and effectively.

This year, a total of 82 SSWG members received the prestigious Outstanding Cluster and Individual Awards. Another 109 members were presented the SSWG Cluster, Individual and Commendation Awards.

Safety and Security Watch Group

The SSWG is a crucial network that has allowed SPF and SCDF to work with building owners to enhance their overall preparedness and readiness in dealing with incidents and contingencies. The SSWG has also been instrumental in supporting the SGSecure movement to prepare organisations for potential terrorist attacks. The SPF and SCDF will continue to organise meetings, courses, and seminars to keep SSWG members updated on the latest threats and protective measures available.

Threat-Oriented Person Screening Integrated System (TOPSIS) Awards

In addition, 22 organisations received the Threat-Oriented Person Screening Integrated System (TOPSIS) awards at this year’s event. Eight organisations received the Outstanding TOPSIS awards while another 14 organisations received the High Commendation and Commendation TOPSIS awards. TOPSIS is a security enhancement programme where suspicious persons are identified by trained personnel and subjected to enhanced checks. TOPSIS was first implemented at the border checkpoints in 2009 to enhance aviation and border security and has since expanded inland to strengthen homefront security.

Director of the Community Partnership Department, Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Sherrin Chua said, “The threat of terrorism is always evolving, and we cannot emphasise enough on the need to remain vigilant. I am heartened to see the active participation and collaborative efforts from our SSWG members. Together, we can make a safer Singapore.”
