The Police have arrested a 28-year-old female Indian national, who was on transit in Singapore, for her suspected involvement in two cases of shop theft at Changi Airport Terminal 2.
On 15 March 2025, the Police were alerted to a suspected case of shop theft at The Shilla Duty Free Cosmetic Shop located at Changi Airport Terminal 2 Departure Transit area. During an inventory stocktake, the retail staff discovered that two bottles of perfume were missing. CCTV footage revealed that the woman had entered the retail shop and allegedly took two bottles of perfume without paying.
The staff alerted a security officer on patrol and the security officer managed to locate the woman within the transit area and detained her before she could depart from Singapore. When confronted by the security officer, the woman produced only one bottle of perfume. However, upon searching her bag, another three bottles of perfume were found. Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had went into another retail shop where she took another two bottles of perfume and left the shop without paying. All four bottles of perfume valued at about $742 were recovered and returned to the retail shops.
The woman will be charged in court on 20 March 2025 with the offence of theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years, or with a fine, or with both.
The Police take a serious view of shop theft cases and offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law. The Police will continue to work closely with stakeholders and the community to prevent and deter cases of shop theft.
