The Police have arrested a 35-year-old Australian woman for her suspected involvement in a case of shop theft in the transit area of Changi Airport Terminal 1.

On 23 March 2023, the Police were alerted to a suspected case of shoptheft after a bottle of perfume valued at $248 was discovered missing from The Shilla Duty Free Perfume and Cosmetics Shop located at Changi Airport Terminal 1 Departure Transit area. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTVs, officers from the Airport Police Division established the identity of the woman. However, the woman had left Singapore on a flight after she purportedly committed the crime.

On 31 March 2025, the woman returned to Singapore and was arrested by the Police.

The woman will be charged in court on 4 April 2025 for the offence of theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and a fine.

The Police take a serious view of shop theft cases and offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law. Offenders will be held accountable,

even if they manage to evade immediate detection. The Police will continue to work closely with stakeholders and the community to prevent and deter shop theft cases.
