We reflect on a challenging and fast-paced 2021 for the Singapore Police Force (SPF). Our officers remained steadfast in their duties, continually building on our capabilities and strengthening partnerships with the community so as to carry out the SPF’s mission to prevent, deter and detect crime. Here are the key moments in our 2021 journey!
SPF200 Virtual Exhibition
A virtual exhibition based on the SPF200 “Frontier Town to Safest City” exhibition was launched in December 2020. Using 360-degree filming technology, the virtual tour reinvents the viewing experience through a bold approach to learning about history, beyond the museum space. Visitors can explore SPF’s 200-year history through stories about our officers braving danger to bring criminals to justice.
Workplan Seminar 2021
“Smarter Policing, Empowered Community” was the theme of the Police Workplan Seminar 2021. Held virtually on 22 June 2021, the Workplan Seminar unveiled a range of technologies and initiatives to enhance the SPF’s frontline capabilities, streamline work processes, improve training regimes and strengthen our partnership with the community.
Fresh Initiatives in Public Education and Engagement
Premiering in April 2021, Hello Police? is an informative, bite-sized web series that takes viewers closer to thework undertaken by our men and women in blue and which answerssome of the burning questions related to the SPF. Premiering in October 2021, Justice is Done is a four-part web series that showcases how the Police followed leads and pieced together evidence to solve four murder cases that shook the nation.
Parliamentary Motion Commemorating 200 Years of the Singapore Police Force
On 3 August 2021, a Parliamentary Motion was passed to commemorate 200 years of the SPF and honour the contributions of our officers to nation-building and keeping Singapore one of the safest countries in the world. In conjunction with this Parliamentary Motion, a commemorative Singapore Police Bicentennial 2020 Medal and Medallion were introduced to pay tribute and accord recognition to SPF officers, both past and present, for their service to the nation.
Volunteer Special Constabulary 75th Anniversary Observance Ceremony
The Volunteer Special Constabulary (VSC) marked its 75th anniversary on 1 October 2021. A virtual VSC75 Observance Ceremony was held on 23 October 2021 to commemorate this milestone and recognise the contributions of all serving and retired VSC officers.
Police Heritage Trail (Live Virtual Tour)
On 30 October 2021, the SPF launched its first live virtual tour of the Police Heritage Trail. The virtual tour was designed to be light-hearted and engaging while educating viewers about the significance of the SPF in Singapore’s history and its continued importance as an institution. The tour covered Police heritage buildings like the Old Hill Street Police Station and Kreta Ayer Neighbourhood Police Post.
SPF200 Closing Ceremony (One Million Trees Movement)
Commissioner of Police Hoong Wee Teck, Deputy Commissioner of Police Jerry See, Chairman of NParks Mr Benny Lim and Chief Executive Officer of NParks Mr Kenneth Er planted two trees – a wild nutmeg and a merbatu tree – at Farquhar Garden on 10 December 2021 to mark the conclusion of SPF200 activities.
Launch of the Community Watch Scheme
The Community Watch Scheme was officially launchedby the SPF on 11 December 2021. Integrating several existingschemes such as the Neighbourhood Watch Zone, Vehicleson Watch and Riders on Watch, the CWS is the umbrellacommunity volunteer scheme for the SPF. Whatever their age or profile, members of the public who join the CWS can play an active role inhelping our community safe!
