The pounding drums echoed against the waters of the Kallang Basin again as the Police Sports Association Inter-Division Police Dragon Boat Championship returns!
Sun’s Out, Paddles Out
Dragon boat racing has been a traditional Chinese sport for over two thousand years but began as a modern sport in Hong Kong in 1976. Since then, the popularity of dragon boat racing has grown internationally.
The much-anticipated Police Dragon Boat Championship took place at the Singapore Sports Hub’s Water Sports Centre on 13 October 2022. The revival of the event, after the COVID-19 pandemic had ceased all Police sports competitions for two years, drew many officers who’d been awaiting its return!
Despite the blistering heat, supporters stood on the terrace to cheer their teams on, as the drums of the dragon boats thundered over the water, creating an electrifying mood.
The participating units flew their flags and wore their team T-shirts with pride. Many officers brought their families along as well.
Competing teams strived to impress with their chants and huddles before going down to their boats. Cheers for each team from their supporters resounded loudly from the shore!
Deputy Commissioner of Police How Kwang Hwee graced the event and presented awards to the runners-up and champions in each category.
Congratulations to all the winning teams for the 2022 Championship, and to all the officers who took part. See you next year!
