Having joined the Singapore Police Force (SPF) in 2013, Superintendent of Police (Supt) Koh Chao Rong has held various positions in the Force, including serving as an Investigation Officer at Tanglin Police Division, Commanding Officer (CO) of Rochor Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC) and a Principal Staff Officer to the Commissioner of Police. Supt Koh currently serves as the Deputy Commander of Clementi Police Division.

What inspired you to join the SPF?
I wanted a meaningful career where I could make a positive impact to the community. Policing stood out to me as I was drawn to its action-packed nature and the rewarding aspect of the work.

What keeps you motivated after 11 years in the SPF?
It’s the purpose, and our men and women in blue. Our work makes a real difference to people’s lives and it’s fulfilling knowing that we contribute to keeping our home safe for everyone to live, work and play.

What’s also inspiring is working alongside fellow officers who are passionate and dedicated to the SPF’s mission. I cherish the strong camaraderie and it drives me to contribute to building a stronger Force for current and future generations of Police officers, and for our nation.

Can you share more about your experience as a host for Crimewatch?
I first began hosting Crimewatch in Chinese in 2016. Once, while visiting a school as the CO of Rochor NPC, a student recognised me from Crimewatch and shared that the show inspired him to also want to join the SPF. It’s heartwarming to know the impact we can have as hosts, and it motivates me to do better!

I hope that through the cases and crime prevention advisories, viewers will gain a better understanding of police work and develop a sense of empowerment and responsibility to create a safer community.

What does Police Day mean to you?
Police Day serves as a reminder of the significance of our work. We’re not just enforcing laws; we’re delivering justice, safeguarding lives, and protecting our home for our loved ones and all Singaporeans.

It’s not an easy task – long hours, tough decisions and personal sacrifices. But it’s highly rewarding – the lives I’ve impacted, the difference I’ve made and the friendships I've forged. Like other officers, I carry a profound sense of pride in donning the Police blue. Policing is more than just a job, and has become an integral part of my life!

On this Police Day, I’d like to extend my tribute to all officers, past and present, for their unwavering dedication to duty and the strong bonds of camaraderie. Their passion and sense of duty are deeply inspiring. Let us build upon the remarkable work of generations of officers before us and strive to elevate the SPF to even greater heights!

How did you feel when you first found out that you’d be the Commander for this year’s Parade?
I felt deeply humbled and honoured. Police Day holds huge significance for all SPF officers, and it’s a privilege to lead the parade to commemorate this special day. Like other Parade participants, I also feel a heavy sense of responsibility, knowing that the success of the Parade rests upon our shoulders. We have a duty to fly the SPF flag high, and I’m confident that all of us will do our absolute best to deliver an excellent Parade!

What would you like to share with fellow officers who are taking part in this year’s Police Day Parade?
It’s an honour to serve as your Parade Commander. Despite the demanding training and sweltering heat, all of you have demonstrated unwavering dedication, showing up without fail and giving your very best. Thank you for being such an energetic and inspiring group of officers to train with! I’m grateful for the memorable experiences and friendships forged together.

A special shoutout to the enciks, field instructors and staff from the Training Command, whose tireless efforts behind the scenes have been instrumental for this Parade!

As we take the stage on Police Day, all eyes will be on us to raise the SPF flag high. Let us march with pride, purpose and unity. Make this Parade an exceptional one — not just for ourselves, but for our units, our divisions and the SPF. Happy Police Day!
