The Singapore Police Force (SPF) kicked off the Police Bicentennial commemorations with the SPF200 Run on 10 January 2020. This relay run featured SPF officers from various units coming together to complete a distance of 200 km in 24 hours. The 200 km signifies 200 years of policing in Singapore, while the 24-hour duration symbolises the SPF’s enduring commitment to be a Force for the Nation, safeguarding Singapore 24/7.
The run was flagged off at 10am at the Special Operations Command Base in Queenstown. More than 300 participants, including past and present Police officers, civilian staff, Police National Service officers, Volunteer Special Constabulary officers and Citizens on Patrol volunteers took part.
The 200km run took the runners past the sites of 30 past and present SPF establishments across the island, including the first Police Station and the Old Police Academy.
The final lap of the run was flagged off the next day by President Halimah Yacob at the Marina Barrage. Over 3,200 SPF officers, their family members, and beneficiaries from the Community Chest joined the final lap, which ended at the OCBC Square at the Singapore Sports Hub where the SPF200 Police Family Day Carnival was held.
President Halimah then officially launched the Police Bicentennial, which marked the start of a series of commemorative events that will be held throughout the year.
