On 10 November 2024, the Clementi Police Division, in collaboration with the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC), SHINE (Children and Youth Services), and Singapore Polytechnic (SP), hosted the Clementi Police Division Roadshow at the Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability.
With the theme “Empowering Our Youths, Engaging Our Community,” the event underscored the importance of youth and community involvement in enhancing public safety.
The SHINE Youth Community Outreach Patrol (Youth COP) played a key role, curating interactive exhibits, game booths, and a skit to inform attendees about crime prevention. By engaging the public directly, they promoted awareness on various types of crimes in an interactive and memorable way.
The roadshow was graced by Minister of State (MOS), Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of Social and Family Development Ms Sun Xueling. MOS Sun shared that the strong foundation of trust and cooperation between the Police and the community has made Singapore one of the safest countries in the world. MOS Sun also presented awards to winners of the Youth Against Scams (YAS) TikTok competition and the Anti-Scam Challenge, celebrating outstanding contributions in promoting anti-scam messages.
#YouthAgainstScams2024
The #YouthAgainstScams2024 TikTok competition, organised by Clementi Division, encouraged young people to creatively spread anti-scam messages on social media. The YAS competition was held from 13 May to 31 July 2024, and saw an overwhelmingly positive response, with more than 250 videos uploaded on Tik Tok, garnering about 700,000 views.
Team Galvanised Steel from Tampines Secondary School emerged as the champions with a video that gained 305,600 views.
Anti-Scam Challenge 2024
Originally launched by Queenstown NPC in 2016, the Anti-Scam Challenge has since expanded across all Grassroots Organisations (GROs) within the Clementi Division. This year, the Anti-Scam Challenge achieved remarkable participation with over 90% GRO involvement. More than 1,000 anti-scam videos and posters were created and distributed across GRO networks, with Ghim Moh Gardens Residents’ Committee clinching the Challenge Shield as the Champion team.
The roadshow featured booths and activities designed by Singapore Polytechnic students and Youth COP to engage the public on scam prevention. A notable highlight was the Delta Anti-Scam Hub, an innovative VR experience developed by Clementi Division, allowing participants to step into a detective’s role and learn practical scam prevention strategies.
A United Effort
The Clementi Police Division Roadshow 2024 underscored the importance of community cooperation in combating scams and crime. Through such initiatives, Clementi Police Division reaffirms its commitment to building a safer, more vigilant society. By working together, we can continue to safeguard Singapore’s future!
